Okay, first thing to know is... you’ve got an assortment of learning tools at your disposal:
- There’s a nifty Onboarding Checklist within your USerGuiding Panel.
- You can watch our Onboarding Videos.
- There’s plenty of educational content in our Help Center & Blog.
That said, let’s dive in.
Step 1: Embed the Container Code
After creating your new guide, to make it visible on the website you should assign a container to it. Then you can embed the container into the corresponding website and *POOF* your new walkthrough steps, highlighted on-screen tips, and step-by-step guides will show.
UserGuiding provides a default and unique ID, viewable at Panel > Settings > Containers.
Check out our article: How do I embed the tracking code into my software?
You can also watch the video on embedding the container code with GTM.
Below is a one-minute explanatory video about the Containers and what you can do with them.
Step 2: Download The UserGuiding Chrome Extension
In order to create and design guides and hotspots, head on over to Google’s WebStore to freely download the UserGuiding Chrome Extension.
Step 3: Create Your First Guide
Once you’ve successfully downloaded and installed your UserGuiding Chrome extension, head to your Panel. Under the Content section, you’ll find the Guides tab.
Now click the + New Guide button, which you can see towards the bottom in the following screenshot.
- Enter the main URL a.k.a the website address of the platform where you’d like to create your first walkthrough guide into the opening popup (see below). Click the Start button.
Now your webpage should be opened in a new window with the UserGuiding extension working.
- Next, tap into the extension to name and describe your guide and click the Create button.
You should be able to add steps to your newly created guide via the + Step button or with Click Here. Be sure to learn more about the Different Kinds of Steps Within a Guide.
Step 4: Go Live!
After you’ve got these last three steps covered, activate your guide’s status and you’re live.
Head to the guide’s Settings > switch the status to Active > be sure to click Save > then Publish Changes.
Now your guide is visible to the targeted end users. Once they arrive on the specified URL, the guide should automatically do its work.
