Disabling User Identification
Learn how to disable this feature and what happens when you do it.
Overview
User Identification in UserGuiding is a feature that allows you to track onboarding material usage with specific user attributes. This can be crucial for detailed analytics and understanding user behavior. However, if you choose to disable User Identification, there are several implications to be aware of.
What Happens When You Disable User Identification?
- Loss of User API Access: Disabling User Identification will also result in losing access to the User API. This means you will no longer be able to retrieve detailed usage data linked to specific user attributes.
- Implications: Without the User API, you will miss out on the detailed analytics that show how individual users interact with your onboarding materials.
- Unavailable Existing Analytics Records: Once User Identification is turned off, the existing usage analytics records tied to user attributes will no longer be accessible. This data will be lost, and you will not be able to review past interactions based on user-specific information.
- Random Session IDs Tracking: After disabling User Identification, onboarding material usage will be tracked using random session IDs instead of user attributes. This approach provides a more generalized view of engagement but lacks the granularity of user-specific data.
- Impact: While you will still be able to track overall usage, you will lose detailed insights into individual user behaviors and preferences.
