We kindly ask you to read the Changes Guideline and share it with your developers so that they can send us user attributes and event data with the suggested methods. (for the details, find the "Questions you may ask to us🤔" section below).

Overview

Big news! Soon we will launch the new Users Page, a feature that UserGuiding users most request. So, in addition to what is new, there will also be some changes to your account.

To ensure a smooth transition for our users, we have prepared this guideline to adapt to upcoming changes quickly.

What is going to change? 🐣

1- How you can create user segments at UserGuiding

The new Users Page will use all the user attributes and event data as filters to create specific user segments. Thus, we are removing the segments page from the Customization section.

The new Filters will come in groups of four:

  • User attributes are traits and information about your users that you can use for targeting UserGuiding content that you set up in your UserGuiding installation. For example, a user's email address could be a user attribute.

  • UserGuiding Engagement corresponds to user actions automatically tracked by UserGuiding on how users engage with each live guide, hotspot, checklist, Resource Center, and NPS. For example, a user completing a Guide by going through all its steps.

  • Browser Attributes are traits and information about your users, just like user attributes. They are automatically collected by UserGuiding and are not editable. For example, a user's Browser Language.

  • User Actions (Events) correspond to actions users perform in your application, tracked via UserGuiding. For example, a user clicking a specific button could be tracked as an event in UserGuiding.

2- How you can send user attribute and event data to UserGuiding

Identifying users, sending user properties, and tracking user actions all rolled in one for those who know how to code. Learn how you configure. Thus, we're removing the old custom attributes page where you sent user attributes and user actions (events) data to us.

Questions you may ask to us🤔

1- What is going to happen to my existing user segments?

Existing user segments will continue to target specific user groups, whether they are created with custom attributes or properties given by UserGuiding.

If you have user segments created with properties such as visited page, referral, cookie, you should know that:

  • they'll continue to function as a part of their designated segments to target specific user groups.

  • the same properties will be visible on the new user's page as filters, ready to create new user segments.

⚠️ However, there won't be any user-specific analytics data for the segments created with those filters (visited page, referral, cookie) due to technical incompatibility. We strongly suggest re-sending them with the suggested methods.

2- What is going to happen to my existing custom attributes?

If you have custom attributes at UserGuiding using the data sources such as Cookie, GTM, Global Javascript (window), and Browser Local Storage, you should know that:

  • they will be visible on the new user's page under the available attributes list.

  • they'll continue to function as a part of their designated segments to target specific user groups.

⚠️However, they won't be used as filters to display analytics data on the new user's page due to technical incompatibility. We strongly suggest re-sending them with the suggested methods.

🚀 For the custom attributes using the UserGuiding as their data source (track method), no further action is needed. They will fully function and can be used as filters to display user-specific analytics data.

3- Can I send user attributes without identifying users (user identification is not enabled)?

Yes. Identifying anonymous data is possible even if you don't identify your users. By sending user attributes and custom events to UserGuiding, you can still create powerful user segments to target and track their engagement.

4- For how many individual users the Users Page will display user-specific analytics data?

The new User page can display data for up to 10.000 identified or anonymous users.
