How does UserGuiding make use of browser cookies?
Does UserGuiding inject or add cookies to my browser or my end users' browsers?

Overview

Cookies are files with small amount of data which may include an anonymous unique identifier. Cookies are sent to your browser from a website and stored on your device. Tracking technologies also used are beacons, tags, and scripts to collect and track information and to improve and analyze our Service.

Term Definitions

UserGuiding Customer (Customer):

The user that subscribes to UserGuiding Product.


UserGuiding Customer's Web Application (Customer's App):

www.acme.com (example url), the website that Customer installed UserGuiding Product.


UserGuiding Website:

www.userguiding.com


UserGuiding Product:

UserGuiding application that is installed on Customer's App to better onboard End-User.


End-User of Customer's App (End User): The internet user that views/uses Customer's App, (for example, acme.com), and interacts with the materials that you created via UserGuiding Product.


UserGuiding Panel: panel.userguiding.com, the management panel of UserGuiding Product.


UserGuiding Website

UserGuiding Website uses cookies to track its visitors.


To prevent the cookies from being added, visitors can simply opt out by using the cookie banner on the website or disable the cookies from UserGuiding's website under their browser settings.


These cookies are only added to the browsers of the visitors of the UserGuiding Website or the UserGuiding Panel, so they are not related to the UserGuiding Product, or the End-User.

UserGuiding Product

UserGuiding Product uses a combination of first-party cookies and local storage records to function properly. It does not add 3rd party trackers to the End-User browser.


Cookies That UserGuiding Product Adds to End User's Browser

_ugeuid

Required. Stores the end user's ID as a first-party domain cookie for cross-subdomain identification. Expires after 90 days.


_ugeuh

Conditional. Stores an identity verification hash. Only set when Identity Verification is enabled. Expires after 90 days.



Local Storage Records That UserGuiding Product Adds to End User's Browser

___ug___
Required. Default UserGuiding local storage key. It keeps anything required for the app logic.


__UGS__uid
Optional. Keeps the end user's ID in local storage (used for anonymous users before identification)


persist:userguiding
Required. It keeps the UserGuiding app state to prevent app state loss when the page reloads, etc.


ug-guide-events
Required. It keeps guide preview-related data, which is required to track guide events correctly.
