Overview
UserGuiding allows you to control who can access your Product Updates. From the Access settings, you can decide whether your updates are completely public or restricted to specific users only.
Control Access Levels
Navigate to Product Updates > Access tab to configure your protection settings. You’ll find three access options:
Public Access
- All updates are publicly visible and indexed by search engines.
- No further action is required.
Public Access + Some Updates Protected
- Some updates are visible to everyone, while others are restricted.
- To protect specific updates, select the updates you want to restrict access to.
- Unselected updates will remain publicly accessible.
- You can also choose to hide protected update titles from page navigation and search results to keep sensitive content fully hidden unless access is granted.
All Updates Protected
- All Product Updates will be private and only accessible to authorized users.
- No updates will be visible to the public.
Note: Access control functionality is available for Growth & Enterprise plans only.
Set Authentication Method
If you select an access level that includes restricted updates (options 2 or 3), you'll need to define how users authenticate.
You can choose one or both of the following methods:
User Identity Verification
Use this option if you have already enabled the Identity Verification for your account.
Email & Password Login Wall
Require users to log in with an email and password to view protected updates.
If this is selected, you’ll need to manually add users.
Adding Users
- Invite via Email: You can type the user's email address and send an invite. Users will set up their own passwords upon verifying their email.
- Create Manually: You can enter the user’s email and assign a password. Then, share the credentials with the user so they can access your protected updates.
Configuring your access settings ensures that only the right users see the right updates, whether a public changelog or internal-only release notes.
