Creating Banners
Learn how you can create, configure, and publish Banners in UserGuiding.

Overview

The Banners feature enables you to display targeted announcements, alerts, and calls-to-action directly within your product. You can fully customize your Banner’s design, placement, and behavior to ensure it delivers the right message to the right audience.

This article will guide you through the step-by-step process of creating a Banner, from setting up its content to configuring its display rules.

Creating a Banner

  1. From your UserGuiding Panel, navigate to the Engagement section on the left-hand menu.
  2. Click Banners.
  3. Select + New Banner to get started.

  4. Select a template that suits your purpose, or choose Create from Scratch to design a custom Banner.

Editor

Content

In the Content tab, you can define what your Banner will look like and how users will interact with it.

Banner Text: Enter the main text you want to display to your users.

Buttons: Each Banner includes one button by default (you can remove it if not needed). You can add up to two buttons in total. Here, you can customize the button text, style (Primary/Secondary), and click actions.

Click actions include:

  • Open a URL
  • Trigger a Guide, Checklist, Resource Center, or Survey
  • Close the Banner
  • “Do not show again” to hide the Banner permanently for that user
  • Copy text to clipboard
  • Run a JavaScript API command

Layout

The Layout tab defines where your Banner appears and how it behaves on the page.

Theme: Assign the Banner to a theme and inherit its style preferences.

Banner Position: Choose Top or Bottom of the page.

  • If you place it at the top, you can enable “Sticky” to keep it visible while users scroll.
  • If you place it at the bottom, the Banners are always floating.

Banner Placement: You can push elements down or choose 'Floating' to overlay the Banner on the page.

Text-Button Placement: You can decide how you want to align your Banner text and buttons.

Inner paddings: You can adjust the margins of the Banners.

Display

The Display tab controls how users see and interact with the Banner. You can add a dismiss (X) button so users can close the Banner. You can also enable or disable animations and define how the Banner transitions in/out.

Configuration

In the Configuration tab, you set up targeting and behavior rules:

Status: Activate or deactivate the Banner.

Information: Banner ID and Name (you can edit the name).

Page Targeting: Define which URLs the Banner will appear on.

Audience: Choose “All users,” a custom segment, or “Only me” for testing.

Triggers:

  • Auto trigger: The Banner appears automatically on a visit.
  • Custom trigger: The Banner is triggered manually via API or hyperlink.

Scheduling

You can schedule your Banner to appear within a specific time window. Scheduling is only possible if the Banner status is set to Active.

Note: The material scheduling feature is offered only in Growth and Enterprise plans.

Advanced Settings

Container: Choose a container in which your Banner will display.

Once saved and published, your Banner will display to users based on the settings you’ve defined — ensuring your announcements are visible, timely, and relevant.
