How Alerts Work:
You define policies with specific conditions. When a policy's conditions are met, your team is notified through the channels you've configured. This helps you catch issues like broken guides or surveys that users aren't completing.
Setting Up Alert Recipients
Before creating policies, configure who should receive alerts:
- Go to the Alerts tab.
- Select team members under Recipients to receive alert emails.
- Optionally enable Post to Slack to also send alerts to your Slack channel.
These recipient settings apply to all alert policies in the project.
Creating an Alert Policy
- Click the + New Alert Policy button.
- Fill in the policy details:
Policy Name — A descriptive name for this alert (e.g., "Onboarding Guide — Not Completed")
Material Type — Choose Guide or Survey
Scope — All monitors all guides/surveys in the project; Specific lets you select a single guide/survey to monitor
Alert Type — The condition that triggers the alert (see below)
Threshold — Number of days (1–90) the condition must persist before alerting (applies to "Not Started" and "Not Completed" types)
Channels — Choose Email, Slack, or both
3. Click Save to create the policy.
Alert Types
Not Started (Guides, Surveys) — Triggers when the content has not been started by any user within the threshold period
Not Completed (Guides, Surveys) — Triggers when users have viewed the content but haven't completed it within the threshold period
Element Not Found (Guides only) — Triggers when the target element for a guide step cannot be found on the page
Managing Policies
From the Alerts tab, you can:
- Toggle a policy on or off using the status switch without deleting it
- Edit a policy by clicking on it to open the policy editor
- Delete a policy by clicking the delete icon on the policy row
Example Use Cases
- "All Guides — Not Started (7 days)" — Get alerted if any guide hasn't been started within a week of being published.
- "Onboarding Survey — Not Completed (3 days)" — Know when users are abandoning your onboarding survey.
- "Feature Tour — Element Not Found" — Catch when a UI change breaks one of your guide steps.
Can I create multiple alert policies? Yes. You can create as many alert policies as needed. Each policy can monitor different content types with different conditions and thresholds.
When are alerts sent? Alerts are evaluated periodically and sent as soon as a policy's conditions are met.
Are notification setting changes tracked? Yes. All changes to notification settings (status updates, recipient changes, policy creation/deletion) are recorded in your project's Activity Log for audit purposes.
