Banner Trigger Settings
Learn more about Banner trigger options.

Overview

You can manage the trigger settings of your Banners using the Auto-Trigger (on) or Custom Trigger (off) option under the Trigger section on the Banner Settings page.

Auto-Trigger (on)

When Auto-Trigger is turned on, the Banner will automatically appear as soon as the visitor lands on the pre-set target URL.

You can then configure the Appear Frequency conditions, which control how often the Banner is displayed to the same user. These rules are only applied if the user belongs to the targeted segment and is visiting the correct page.

Appear Frequency Options:

  • Only Once: Banner will not be shown again once it has been seen.
  • Once in a Session: Banner will appear on each new browser session. A new session is defined when you access a website on a new browser tab/window.
  • Once in 1 Day: Banner will show once per day.
  • Once in 7 Days: Banner will show once per week.
  • Once in 30 Days: Banner will show once per month.
  • Once in 90 Days: Banner will show once every three months.
  • Always: Banner will appear every time users visit the targeted page.,

Note: If you haven't enabled User Identification, and your users access your website through a different device, in incognito mode, or clear their browser cache, they will be considered new users. Thus, if you've set your Banner to be shown only once, these users will see it again.

Display Priority

If multiple Banners (or other onboarding materials like Guides or Checklists) are set to display on the same page, they won’t appear all at once.

The Display Priority setting allows you to determine which material should take precedence in the event of conflicts. You can assign Low, Medium, High, or Highest priority levels to your Banners.

Stop Trigger

You can define conditions for when a Banner should stop being displayed. Options include:

  • After the user has seen the Banner a set number of times.
  • After the user interacts with the Banner (e.g., clicks a button).
  • Once a specific goal you’ve configured is reached (e.g., attribute- or event-based goals).

Auto-Trigger (off)

When Auto-Trigger is turned off, the Banner will not show automatically. Instead, it must be triggered manually through one of the Custom Trigger options.

Custom Trigger Options:

  • JavaScript API: Use the provided API command to trigger your Banner programmatically. For example, you might want a Banner to display only when a user clicks a particular button in your app.
  • Banner Hyperlink: Each Banner includes a unique hyperlink URL you can share. When clicked, this link will trigger the Banner.
  • Other Onboarding Materials: Banners can also be triggered through Resource Centers, Guides, or Hotspots.

Additional Trigger Settings

  • Extra Display Conditions:
    • You can display the Banner only after the user has visited X number of pages in a session.
    • You can display the Banner only after the user has stayed on a page for X seconds.
  • Scheduling: Available on Growth and Enterprise plans, you can define a time period when your Banner is active. Note that scheduling only works if the Banner status is set to Active.

Banner trigger settings provide precise control over when, how often, and under which conditions your Banners are displayed.
