Notification Management
Stay informed about your product's performance and user activity with UserGuiding's Notification Settings. Configure automated digests, activity summaries, and custom alerts — delivered to your team via email, Slack, or the in-app Notification Center.

Accessing Notification Settings

Navigate to Settings → Notifications from the left sidebar. The page contains three tabs:

  • Digest — Weekly performance summaries
  • Activity — Daily user activity reports
  • Alerts — Custom alert policies for underperforming content

Changes across all tabs are saved together using the Save button in the top-right corner of the page.

Delivery Channels

Notifications can be delivered through three channels:

Email — Sent directly to selected team members' email addresses

Slack — Posted to a Slack channel via webhook (requires Slack integration)

Notification Center — Displayed in the bell icon menu inside the UserGuiding panel

Note: To enable Slack notifications, you must first set up a Slack webhook in Settings → Integrations → Slack.

Digest Notifications

Digest notifications send a weekly summary of your project's key performance metrics to your team.

What's Included

Each digest email contains week-over-week comparisons for:

  • New Users — Number of new users identified
  • Total Interactions — Combined user interactions across all content
  • Guide Views — How many times your guides were viewed
  • Survey Views — How many times your surveys were viewed
  • Banner Views — How many times your banners were viewed

Trend indicators show whether each metric increased or decreased compared to the previous week.

Configuration Options

Status — Toggle the digest on or off (Active / Inactive)

Recipients — Select which team members receive the digest via email

Post to Slack — Enable or disable posting the digest to your connected Slack channel

Default Behavior

  • When first enabled, recipients default to team members with Admin or Account Owner roles.
  • One digest is sent per project per week.

Activity Notifications

Activity notifications send a daily summary of end-user activity, but only on days when there is new data to report.

What's Included

Each activity notification summarizes:

  • Survey Responses — Number of new survey submissions
  • Product Updates Reactions — User reactions to product update posts
  • Knowledge Base Reactions — User reactions to knowledge base articles

If surveys are active, the notification also includes a per-survey breakdown of response counts.

Configuration Options

Status — Toggle activity notifications on or off (Active / Inactive)

Recipients — Select which team members receive the notification via email

Post to Slack — Enable or disable posting to your connected Slack channel

Default Behavior

  • Recipients default to team members with Admin or Account Owner roles.
  • Notifications are only sent on days when at least one tracked activity occurs.

How do I add or remove recipients? Click on the recipients dropdown in any notification tab. You can search for team members by name or email. Only users who are part of your project team can be added as recipients.

Can I set different recipients for each notification type? Yes. Each tab (Digest, Activity, Alerts) has its own recipient list. You can configure different team members for each.

What happens if I disable a notification? Toggling a notification to Inactive stops all future deliveries for that type. Your settings and configuration are preserved, so you can re-enable it at any time without reconfiguring.

Do I need Slack connected to use notifications? No. Slack is optional. Email and Notification Center deliver work without any integrations. Slack notifications require a webhook URL configured in Settings → Integrations → Slack.

When are notifications sent?

  • Digest — Once per week
  • Activity — Once per day (only on days with new activity)
