Configuring Session Replay
The Settings page lets you control the conditions under which UserGuiding captures sessions. Changes take effect after you click Save.
Enabling / Disabling Session Replay
Use the toggle at the top of the Settings page to turn Session Replay on or off for your project. When disabled, no new sessions will be recorded.
Privacy Masking
Control how sensitive content is handled in recordings. UserGuiding offers three masking levels:
- Strict — masks all text and input fields by default
- Medium — masks passwords and sensitive inputs; shows most text
- Light — records most content with minimal masking
You can also define specific CSS selectors to block, mask, or explicitly unmask individual elements.

Sample Rate
Set what percentage of user sessions should be recorded. A sample rate of 100% captures every eligible session; lower values reduce storage usage. For example, setting 20% means 1 in 5 sessions will be recorded.
Page Targeting
Limit recording to specific pages on your site. You can define URL rules to only capture sessions that include (or exclude) certain pages.
Exclude URLs
Prevent sessions from being recorded on sensitive pages — such as account settings, billing, or login screens — by adding URL patterns to the exclusion list.

Minimum and Maximum Duration
- Minimum Duration — skip sessions that are too short to be useful (e.g. bounces under 5 seconds)
- Maximum Duration — cap how long a single recording can run, helping manage storage
Audience Segmentation
Restrict recording to specific user segments. Choose between recording all users, only yourself, or users who belong to a specific segment.

Data Retention
Set how many days of session recordings are kept before being automatically deleted. Reducing retention will permanently delete older sessions on the next cleanup cycle.
