How can I reselect an HTML element?
Learn how to reselect an HTML element in the Chrome Extension.

Overview

When working with UserGuiding’s Chrome Extension to create guides or hotspots, you may sometimes need to reselect an HTML element to ensure it is highlighted correctly. This could be necessary if the initial selection was inaccurate or if the layout of the page has changed. Here’s how you can easily reselect an HTML element.

Steps to Reselect an HTML Element

  1. Open the Chrome Extension: Start by launching the UserGuiding Chrome Extension. Ensure you are logged in and have the necessary permissions to edit your guides and hotspots.
  2. Select the Guide Step or Hotspot: Navigate to the guide step or hotspot that requires reselecting the HTML element. Click on the specific guide step or hotspot you wish to edit.
    • Locate the Element: If you have multiple guide steps or hotspots, ensure you select the correct one that needs adjustment.
  3. Access the Reselect Option: In the Guide Step or Hotspot editor, find the “Reselect” option. This feature allows you to change the highlighted area by selecting a new HTML element.
  4. Rehighlight the HTML Element: Click on the “Reselect” button, which will allow you to choose a new HTML element on your page. This action updates the highlight area to the newly selected element.
  5. Confirm Changes: After selecting the new element, review the changes to ensure the correct area is highlighted. If satisfied, save your changes to apply the new selection.
  6. Save and Publish: Once you have reselected the HTML element and confirmed the changes, save your edits. If necessary, publish the updated guide or hotspot to make the new selection live.

Benefits of Reselecting

  • Accuracy: Ensures that the correct HTML element is highlighted, improving the effectiveness of your onboarding materials.
  • Flexibility: Allows adjustments in response to changes in page layout or design.
  • Enhanced User Experience: Provides a more accurate and helpful guide for users, ensuring they receive the intended instructions.

By following these steps, you can efficiently reselect an HTML element within the UserGuiding Chrome Extension, ensuring your guides and hotspots are correctly configured.
