Overview
By default, all your users will see your live onboarding materials. However, you can segment your audience to target specific users and customize their onboarding experience.
Note: If you want to show your onboarding materials based on custom user data, you first need to send this data as a custom user attribute since UserGuiding can't access your database due to privacy.
Creating a Segment
There are several ways to create a new segment.
Users Page - Filters
Access the Users Page and choose one or more filters from the '+ Filter' button.
In the example below, only users from the United States with the English browser language are retrieved through the page filters. You can learn how to use filters on the Users Page here.
After applying a filter combination, you can give a name to your segment and save it.
Following the same steps, you can create company-level segments through the All Companies tab.
Users Page - CSV
If you already have a list of users, you can upload that sheet in a CSV format and create your segment.
Material Settings - On-The-Go
You can create a segment without leaving the material settings page while you create or edit any of your materials.
Editing a Segment
You can access your saved segments at any time using the Segments menu on the left hand.
Note: You can also use it as a shortcut to create a new segment
When adding a filter to an existing segment, you can save it as a new one.
You can delete a segment by clicking the icon below.
Setting a Segment to My Content
Whether you're configuring a Guide, Hotspot, Checklist, etc., you will notice a section called Audience Segmentation. You'll choose the Custom Segment option and the segment you've created there.
In the example below, we have decided to show the content only to our trial users.
Note: You can add multiple segments and combine them with AND/OR to customize your segmentation even more.
